A federal judge has ruled that the abortion drug mifepristone can continue to be dispensed by mail to people with prescriptions, at least for now. But U.S. District Judge David Joseph also warned the FDA to finished a promised review of Biden-era regulations. The ruling is a setback to Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, who requested that the judge roll back federal rules that allow the pills to be shipped. She contends that the practice undermines the state’s ban on abortion, and the judge suggested he could rule for her in the future. Mifepristone has been at the heart of legal fights over abortion access since the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling that states can ban abortion.
