Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival returns with Open Call for artists

Making its comeback this year is the long-standing Buffer Fringe Performing Arts Festival, which after ten consecutive editions, adopted a biennial format. This October 2-4, Nicosia will welcome back the event and an Open Call is now accepting proposals from artists.

In 2023, the festival changed gears and announce it would take place every two years. The decision was taken to reflect its role as an intercommunal festival in Nicosia. This pause created space and time for deeper collaborations, new artistic encounters, and programming that resonates in more sustainable ways. Now, just a few months remain until its 11^th edition.

“Buffer Fringe is a festival that highlights the powerful role of arts and culture in peaceful coexistence and positive societal transformation,” comment organisers. “This edition returns to the roots of what makes Buffer Fringe the unique festival that it is: a space for those who ‘dare to challenge’.”

The Open Call accepts Cyprus-based, international artists and artist groups who want to present solo or collaborative pieces of maximum 45 minutes. All forms of experimental and interdisciplinary performance work are accepted, including theatre, music, installation/visual art, and other crossdisciplinary elements. Participatory, durational and/or site-specific proposals are also welcomed. The festival values work that recognises and incorporates its decolonising agenda, its peacebuilding mission and social solidarity aims.

The online application form is published on the website of the Home for Cooperation with all of the details and interested artists have until April 30 to send in their proposals.
