US Warship With 3,500 Troops Enters Region as Iran War Deepens

The United States has deployed the USS Tripoli to the CENTCOM region as military tensions rise and diplomacy struggles across the Middle East.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli has entered its area of responsibility, bringing with it about 3,500 Marines as Washington boosts its military posture in the region.

In a statement, CENTCOM said the warship is part of an amphibious ready group equipped with transport aircraft, strike fighters and a range of military assets. The ship, which is forward-deployed from Japan, is designed to support rapid-response and combat operations.

The USS Tripoli, a large-deck amphibious assault ship measuring roughly 850 feet and displacing around 45,000 tons, can carry F-35B stealth fighter jets and MV-22 Osprey aircraft, giving the United States added air and sea flexibility in any wider regional contingency.

The deployment comes as the US-Israel war on Iran has entered its second month, with fighting and uncertainty raising fears of broader instability across the Gulf and surrounding regions. Regional governments have been scrambling to contain the fallout through urgent diplomatic contacts.

Pakistan has emerged as one of the key diplomatic players in these efforts, hosting talks with Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt while also relaying messages between Washington and Tehran in a bid to open space for negotiations.

At the same time, Pakistan’s own tensions with Afghanistan remain unresolved. A brief Eid ceasefire between Pakistan and the Taliban collapsed this week, and Pakistani military operations resumed after hopes for a longer truce faded. China has also urged both sides to pursue face-to-face talks and an immediate de-escalation.

The arrival of the USS Tripoli therefore signals more than a routine military move. It reflects Washington’s effort to deter further escalation while regional powers test whether diplomacy can still prevent the wider conflict from spilling into an already fragile neighborhood.
