The sheriff of a rural Colorado county has been indicted in a misconduct investigation. Four other current and former law enforcement officials in the Costilla County Sheriff's Office also face charges. A prosecutor announced the indictments Friday. The indictments are over allegations that human remains were mishandled after they were discovered in October 2024. Allegations also say a Taser was used against a man suffering a mental health crisis. Court documents show that the man says deputies roughed him up, leading to broken ribs. Phone numbers listed for three of the law enforcement officials didn't work. One didn't have a listed number. The Associated Press left a message Friday with an attorney for another.
