AMARYLLIS HOTEL GATE: Zamba, Kapondamgaga, to appear before Public Accounts Committee
Former Chief Secretary, Colleen Zamba, and former State House Chief of Staff, Prince Kapondamgaga, are expected to appear before the Public Accounts Committee as part of the ongoing inquiry into the controversial sale of Amaryllis Hotel.
Committee Chairperson, Steve Baba Malondera, has confirmed the development, stating that the two have been cited by other witnesses who have already appeared before the committee.
Reports suggest that Zamba and Kapondamgaga were involved from the early stages of the deal. In March 2024, the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) is said to have instructed that the purchase process be fast tracked and concluded despite the then board directing the Public Pension Fund Trust (PPFT) not to proceed with the transaction.
Further reports indicate that the current board was appointed during the previous administration, with its chairperson coming from OPC, where he previously served as Director of Legal Services before his promotion. The board was reportedly constituted just weeks before the September 16 elections.
Meanwhile, former PPFT Principal Officer, George Jimu, is also expected to appear before the committee.
