Was January stupid? (22 replies)
I slaughtered our recruitment in the summer, poor, short termist yet with limited 'guaranteed' success, naive, you name it.
I welcomed the addressing of our key issues in January but given our position on NYD, was it a silly gamble IF it means we have limited money to spend in the summer?
None of the below is particularly new, I know how sensitive some people get about any slight repetition around here, however, some thoughts/questions?
- Was playing our card of selling the women's team in Jan to fund a transfer splurge daft, would we have been better waiting to the summer?
- Could we wait till the summer, or is the loophole closed, so we needed to do it now? However, just selling it in Jan doesn't mean you have to spend your money in the same month, like spending your wages on payday, so I guess it was a definite push for immediate promotion?
- If that's the case, was that unnecessarily risky/daft? Or did we want those specific players in the summer anyway.
- IF it's true we need to pay £6m/€8m for Jhon Solis, are you doing it? Or are you getting a championship ready competent destroyer for a fraction of that coat from Preston, Charlton or Bristol City? I really like him, but is he value for money?
- Will we have money to spend on getting a manager someone wants to keep rather than getting a sacked one for free?
Does it bring us back to a simple question...is this now what we've got, bar some minor tweaks, and the choice of manager is absolutely key because he's not going to be able to change the squad?
