'Superman' Sequel Finds Its Green Lantern

James Gunn'sSuperman: Man of Tomorrow has officially cast its Green Lantern.

Aaron Pierre, a British actor known for his roles as Malcolm X in the Genius anthology series, Brendan in M. Night Shyamalan'sOld, and as the voice of Mufasa in Mufasa: The Lion King (2024), will be stepping into the role for the follow-up to 2025's Superman.

Superman, the first film in Gunn's new DC Universe, was a hit with critics and fans, and grossed $617.8 million at the box office. The revival film sees Clark Kent/Superman (David Corenswet), with the help of Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi), Hawkgirl (Isabelle Merced), and Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), work together to defeat Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and his plans to aid in the invasion of the fictional country of Jarhanpur. Fillion portrayed the Guy Gardner version of the Green Lantern character, whereas Pierre will portray John Stewart.

Pierre will also play John Stewart in the upcoming DC Universe series Lanterns, an HBO project executive-produced by James Gunn. The series, which is slated for release in August this year, will see Pierre star alongside actor Kyle Chandler, who will portray Hal Jordan, a legendary member of the Green Lantern Corps, whereas Stewart is a new recruit. Fillion will reprise is Superman role of Guy Gardner in the series.

Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for release in 2027. Previously, German actor Lars Eidinger was cast as Brainiac, a new antagonist, for the sequel. Gunn also confirmed that Nicholas Hoult would reprise his role as Lex Luthor, with his character now working alongside Superman.
