Alan Shearer reveals biggest difference between Tottenham and their relegation rivals
Alan Shearer has predicted whether Tottenham Hotspur will stay up and has revealed one thing that concerns him about the Lilywhites.
Until a few weeks ago, those talking or writing about Tottenham being at risk of being relegated from the Premier League could have been accused of being a little hyperbolic, with many not entertaining that as a major possibility.
That was demonstrated by the fact that Tudor gave his assurance that Spurs will stay up this season in his first press conference as Tottenham’s interim head coach.
One suspects that the Tudor will now be regretting making that statement as his side now sit just one point off the drop zone after three straight defeats, while their rivals are picking up points.
Shearer expects Tottenham to stay up, but has one concern
Even though Spurs are still winless in the Premier League in 2026, Shearer still expects them to just about preserve their top-flight status, given the quality in their squad.
However, he confessed that Nottingham Forest and West Ham players are showing more fight than the Tottenham ones are at the moment.
When asked if Spurs will stay up, the Newcastle legend said on The Rest Is Football: “I think they might just, I’ve not got confidence in it, but they may just have enough, but with what I’m seeing, I’m just saying that because of maybe the names in their squad rather than the ability.
“For too long, they haven’t performed. But I don’t know. Something is saying to me that they might just scrape it, but I’ve got no confidence with that at all.
“At least they’re (West Ham) fighting and scrapping. Forest went to City, as we said. At least those two teams, for their fans, are saying, ‘Well, if we’re going, guys, we’re going down with a fight’. But Spursy at the minute, you don’t see any of that, do you?”
Gary Lineker is puzzled by Igor Tudor’s response
Gary Lineker described Tottenham as ‘a mess’ and admitted that Spurs fans are extremely concerned about the club’s current situation.
The pundit also suggested that Tudor appears to be lost for words when he has to front up to the media.
The former Spurs striker added: “I mean, talk about crisis, crisis of confidence, crisis of belief, just on and off the pitch. It just seems a bit of a mess. They brought in Tudor, obviously, three games, three defeats. I saw him in his press conference, and he just didn’t really seem to know what to say.
“I saw them ask him about a couple of the injuries, how they close certain players, and he just went, ‘I don’t know’.” Obviously, I’ve got an allegiance towards Tottenham. I’ve got a lot of Spurs friends, and they’re all aghast at the moment. There’s a real possibility that Spurs could be relegated.”
