Travis Kelce Retirement Decision: Friend Weighs In

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has a significant decision to make as he decides whether to return to the team for another season or retire from the league. However, one of his friends seems to have a prediction about what his decision will be.

While Kelce has not yet formally announced his decision, that decision will presumably be coming soon. And one of Kelce's friends seems to think that it will be a return announcement rather than a retirement announcement.

Travis Kelce's Retirement Decision

Kelce briefly considered retirement following the 2024 season before opting to return to the Chiefs for another season.

At the time, Kelce said he felt “a responsibility in me to play out the contract,” which has now expired. That, combined with Kelce’s physical decline, his high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift, and a budding career in media or entertainment, has led to a lot of speculation that this could be his final season in the league.

Kelce has not yet announced his decision, but based on the timeline he set a few months ago, it sounds like the decision will be coming soon.

“Seeing my brother go through it, and seeing how the league works, the season re-starts in April, and I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity, whether I come back or not, and vice versa — whether they want me back or not,” Kelce said back in November. “I’d like to make that decision before they’ve got to get draft picks and free agency opens, or gives them an opportunity to fill the roster appropriately. All that will be at the end of the season. I won’t be thinking about it until then.”

With free agency opening next week, Kelce's decision will seemingly be coming soon.

Friend Weighs In

Former NFL player Will Compton is a personal friend of Kelce's and the star tight end has appeared on his podcast Bussin' With The Boys, a number of times.

While Compton does not claim to have inside information on his friend's decision, he did weigh in this week as he predicted that Kelce would ultimately decide to return to the Chiefs for another season.

“I bet Travis Kelce runs it back with the Chiefs for one more year,” Compton wrote in a post on X on Friday. “Everything waiting for him will still be there. He isn’t ending his career 6-11, 3rd in the division, the laughing stock of the NFL, & seeing the dynasty he helped build continue to burn. He can’t go out like that.”

It's worth noting that Compton is not the only one predicting that Kelce will return. Kelce's longtime teammate Chris Jones recently said that he's "not buying" the idea that Kelce could retire, saying bluntly, "he'll be back next year."
