Five arrested in overnight police operations
Five people were arrested for various offences across Cyprus overnight, police said on Monday.
In a statement, police said the arrests were made during targeted crime-prevention operations. The suspects are being investigated for offences including possession of drugs with intent to supply, unlawful possession and use of a stolen motorcycle, and other illegal activities.
As part of the operations, officers stopped 197 vehicles and checked 253 individuals travelling in them.
Sixteen premises were inspected in an effort to combat delinquency, resulting in four complaints.
Traffic checks led to 85 reports for various violations, while six additional traffic-related cases remain under investigation. Five vehicles were also seized during the operations.
Police said coordinated crime-prevention and suppression operations are carried out daily, involving an enhanced presence, targeted inspections and immediate intervention aimed at protecting the public and maintaining order.
