Major incident declared after fire at Southampton General Hospital
Patients were evacuated from a major hospital after a fire broke out this morning.
Fire crews were called to Southampton General Hospital at 5.30am.
More than 100 firefighters were battling the fire at its peak, and crews are still present to ‘dampen down’.
Patients were evacuated and roads surrounding the hospital were closed by emergency services, who declared a major incident.
The hospital said the fire is now contained and no injuries have been reported.

Southampton General is diverting patients away unless their condition ‘is deemed life or limb threatening’, the hospital said.
Visitors are being asked to stay away and all planned outpatient appointments on Sunday are cancelled.
The cause of the blaze is not known.
