Sports Briefs: Wright powers AW past Redwood in title race
Archie Williams High moved into a two-team race for the top seed for the MCAL boys basketball playoffs after handing host Redwood a 59-52 defeat in Larkspur on Friday night.
Brian Wright led the Peregrine Falcons with a 24-point effort, while Meezy Butler pumped in 13 points. The Peregrine Falcons (17-6, 5-1 MCAL) are tied with Marin Catholic for the league lead, although the Falcons lost to Marin Catholic earlier.
Leo Centeno led the Giants with 15 points, while Richard Byrne added 12 points. Redwood (9-12, 5-2) has a non-league contest against Benicia on Tuesday.
- San Marin (13-11, 2-4) posted a 67-47 victory over rival Novato in Friday’s City Championship. Gabe Rimbaud led the Hornets (0-23, 0-6) with 17 points, while Padon Coleman added 12 points and Chris Toussaint had 10.
- Marin Catholic (19-3, 5-1) rolled to a 84-38 victory over Tam High (12-11, 3-3) in Mill Valley on Friday to keep pace with Archie Williams High in the title race.
