NHL roundup: Wild topple Leafs behind Marcus Foligno’s hat trick

Marcus Foligno registered his first career hat trick Monday night as the visiting Minnesota Wild defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3.

Foligno scored his third goal into an empty net after Toronto had cut a four-goal deficit in half in the third period.

Vladimir Tarasenko added two goals and an assist for the Wild, who have won the first two games of a three-game road trip. Ryan Hartman logged a goal and an assist while Kirill Kaprizov, Quinn Hughes and Brock Faber each added two assists. Filip Gustavsson made 27 saves.

Auston Matthews produced a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who opened a five-game homestand after a 2-1-1 road trip. Toronto's Nicholas Robertson and John Tavares also scored. Joseph Woll allowed five goals on 29 shots before Dennis Hildeby replaced him for the third period and turned aside all eight shots he faced.

Hurricanes 2, Sabres 1

Seth Jarvis scored a power-play marker early in the third period, Andrei Svechnikov had a goal and an assist and Sebastian Aho added two assists as Carolina edged Buffalo in Raleigh, N.C.

Hurricanes rookie netminder Brandon Bussi made 17 saves to improve to 18-3-1, securing Carolina's 13th straight home win over the Sabres -- the NHL's longest active home win streak against one opponent.

Rasmus Dahlin opened the scoring for the Sabres, who had scored at least three goals in each of their last seven games. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 26 shots in the defeat.

Avalanche 5, Capitals 2

Nathan MacKinnon had two goals and an assist to reach 1,100 career points as Colorado beat Washington in Denver snap a two-game skid (0-1-1).

Victor Olofsson had a goal and an assist, Parker Kelly and Artturi Lehkonen also scored, Martin Necas contributed two assists and Scott Wedgewood turned away 22 shots for the Avalanche.

Ethen Frank had a goal and an assist, Jakob Chychrun also scored and Charlie Lindgren made 39 saves for the Capitals, who were opening a season-high six-game road trip.

Penguins 6, Kraken 3

Connor Dewar scored twice as Pittsburgh opened a four-game trip with a victory in Seattle.

Alex Nedeljkovic made 35 saves and had his first career NHL fight in a win for San Jose against Florida in Sunrise, Fla.

Will Smith, Vincent Desharnais, Mario Ferraro and Barclay Goodrow scored for the Sharks, who are 8-3-0 in their past 11 games. Igor Chernyshov and Michael Misa each had two assists.

Eetu Luostarinen scored and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 24 shots for the Panthers, who had won three of four.

Blackhawks 2, Jets 0

Spencer Knight posted a 32-save shutout and Jason Dickinson and Connor Bedard scored as host Chicago blanked Winnipeg to stop a three-game losing streak.

Bedard sealed the result with an empty-net goal at 18:40 of the third period. Alex Vlasic earned two assists on a night when Chicago fans warmly welcomed back former Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews, who had two shots on goal and two hits.

Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck stopped 22 of 23 shots, but Winnipeg lost its second straight (0-1-1) on the heels of a four-game winning streak.

Ducks 5, Rangers 3

Cutter Gauthier scored a pair of goals on his 22nd birthday as Anaheim extended its winning streak to four games by rallying past visiting New York.

Jeffrey Viel, Alex Killorn and Mason McTavish also scored goals for the Ducks, who have rebounded from a nine-game losing streak (0-8-1) with their second-longest winning streak of the season. Lukas Dostal made 19 saves.

Artemi Panarin logged a goal and an assist and Matthew Robertson and Vladislav Gavrikov also scored for the Rangers, who lost for the sixth time in their past seven games (1-5-1). Spencer Martin stopped 21 shots.

Devils 2, Flames 1 (OT)

Simon Nemec scored his third overtime goal of the season, giving visiting New Jersey a victory over Calgary.

Dawson Mercer also tallied for the Devils, who have won three of four and opened a four-game road swing on a positive note. New Jersey's Jacob Markstom made 21 saves.

Nazem Kadri scored for the Flames, who had a two-game winning streak snapped. Calgary goalie Devin Cooley stopped 29 shots.

Islanders 4, Canucks 3

Anthony Duclair scored a pair of game-tying goals as New York came from behind to win at Vancouver, sending the Canucks to their 11th consecutive loss.

Tony DeAngelo collected a goal and an assist and Ryan Pulock also scored for the Islanders, who improved to 3-2-1 on their seven-game road trip. Matthew Schaefer and Mathew Barzal chipped in two helpers apiece, and Ilya Sorokin made 29 saves.

Max Sasson, Evander Kane and Drew O'Connor tallied for the Canucks, who are on an 0-9-2 skid and dropped to a league-worst 4-14-3 on home ice this season.
