Reserve Announces Aftermarket Wheelsets with DT Swiss DOF Hub Internals
Reserve Wheels has partnered with DT Swiss to be the only (for now) source for aftermarket wheelsets built with DT Swiss Degree of Freedom (DOF) hub internals - another big deal that follows the recent announcement of Reserve's partnership with Chris King. If you're not familiar with DOF, it is DT Swiss's answer to the pedal kickback issue that is the talk of the MTB industry right now. With DOF internals, riders can benefit from tool-free deadband tuning, enhancing suspension performance and reduced drivetrain feedback. Who doesn't want smoother suspension, quieter rides, and better control on rough trails?
What sets the Degree of Freedom apart from other kickback-mitigation devices is its simple, effective design. It’s a low-maintenance system that DT Swiss developed that allows the hub's ratchets to float and rotate by 0°, 10°, or 20°, all with a quick swap of the ratchet position. With very few moving parts, it adds no extra weight to the hub. It's simple, effective, user-friendly, and will be available at no extra cost to the consumer. Seems like a win-win to me.

How Many Degrees Do You Need To Feel Free?
- At 0°, the hub acts as a high-engagement hub with 90 teeth and 4° of engagement, ideal for XC riders or those wanting quick, immediate power transfer without the lag in power transfer found of slower engagement hubs.
- The 10° setting balances ratchet engagement and free float (dead band), ideal for trail and enduro riders who value descending performance but still pedal to get themselves back to the top of the hill.
- The 20° setting optimizes downhill suspension for those who just prefer going downhill all the time. When ratchet engagement isn't crucial, suspension freedom and efficiency are the main course; 20 degrees of freedom is a delightful advantage.

The adjustment process is quick, simple, and requires no special tools. Remove the rear wheel, pull the cassette and driver body off the hub shell by hand to expose the ratchets, then rotate them to the desired setting.
