Teenage girl ‘fell from back of ambulance’ onto busy motorway

A teenage girl rushed to hospital following an incident on the M6 motorway is believed to have fallen from the back of an ambulance.

Fortunately, she seems to have avoided serious injury in the mishap byLancashire yesterday evening.

But the southbound M55 slip road was closed leaving motorists facing delays of up to two hours while the emergency services dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: ‘At 5.17pm on Tuesday, January 6, we received a report that a teenage girl had fallen from the back of an ambulance on the M6 southbound to M55 slip road.

‘She has been taken to hospital but is thankfully not thought to have suffered any serious injuries.

‘The motorway was closed for a short period and has now fully reopened.’ 

The force first reported they were called to a road traffic collision and told the driver the motorway would be ‘closed for some time’. 

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said: ‘At 5.16pm yesterday evening, a female patient exited a moving ambulance that was travelling on the slip road between the M6 and M55.

‘The patient was treated on scene and taken to hospital with suspected minor injuries.

‘Thankfully, no one else was injured.

‘We are working with Lancashire Police and wish the patient a speedy recovery.’

Later today, a pre-inquest review hearing is listed in relation to the death of a teenage girl who was hit by a car on the motorway after getting out of a police car.

Tamzin Hall, 17, died as she was being taken to a custody suite in Bridgwater by two officers in an Avon and Somerset Police car in November last year.
