Disney+ Finally Fixes Its Library With Iconic Action Movie Franchise Returning in 2026
For part of 2024 and the end of 2025, there was a specific glaring hole in the Disney+ library. While many of the company's high-profile franchises remained intact, one series was notably absent. The Indiana Jones franchise, starring Harrison Ford, had spent the most recent stretch on Paramount due to pre-existing licensing agreements. However, some big news came to light when Disney+ revealed they're officially bringing the beloved franchise back home, which will prove to be a significant win for subscribers. While Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023 release) has been on Disney+, the company is set to have all five films together.
The 'Paramount' Problem: Why Indiana Jones Left in the First Place
To any casual subscriber, searching for "Indiana Jones" and finding only the most recent film was likely a bit baffling. Why would Disney, which owns Lucasfilm, remove its own movie? Well, it all comes down to the licensing agreements that are common across streaming platforms. This is what's led to the Indiana Jones franchise being removed from Disney+ not once, but twice.
While the four films, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, were initially added to the streaming service on May 31, 2023, they were later removed in October 2024.
After a return to Disney+ on January 1, 2025, all four movies left the service in October 2025. However, with stints at Paramount now wrapped up (twice), fans of the beloved franchise received good news that all five Indiana Jones films will be on Disney+, as The Directreported.
A Complete Collection: What This Means for 2026
When the calendar officially turns to 2026, and viewers turn on Disney+, they'll be welcomed by the whole Indiana Jones franchise starring Ford. This means that whatever your binge-watching preferences are, if you're seeking a good run of action films, you can get comfy on the couch after ringing in the New Year with five straight Indiana Jonesmovies.
On January 1, 2026, these five Indiana Jones films will officially be available on Disney+:
- Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
- Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
- Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)
- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
- Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
While Indiana Jones fans can rejoice, it remains unknown how long the deal will keep all five films together. Licensing agreements have made it tough to gauge what the future holds for many popular franchises, including several Marvel movies released in recent years.
As The Direct highlighted, while Disney+ currently has the original Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire and. both of The Amazing Spider-Man films starring Andrew Garfield, the same can't be said of the most recent Tom Holland-led movie. Spider-Man: No Way Home is still absent from Disney+, and is currently streaming on Starz thanks to Sony Pictures' deals with Starz and Netflix.
