Joey King Talks Meeting Real-Life Daughter of Her 'We Were the Lucky Ones' Character, Reveals What She Told Her
All episodes of Joey King‘s new limited series We Were The Lucky Ones are now streaming on Hulu and she’s opening up about the real-life people who inspired the show.
The series is inspired by the incredible true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of WWII. The eight episodes follow them across continents as they do everything in their power to survive, and to reunite.
Joey got the chance to meet the real-life daughter of her character Halina Kurc while filming in Spain last year.

“It was this very emotional, beautiful moment. The first thing she said to me when she met me, she outstretched her arms and she looked at me and she said, ‘Mama,’” Joey told Gold Derby. “She had not met me yet, hasn’t seen any of the work I’ve done to portray her mother yet, yet is here giving me this warm embrace and confidence that says, ‘Yes, you are playing my mother and I’m so excited.’ It just felt like a real big green light for me.”
