JEREMY KEMNETZ SWEEPS! – GENNETT, VAN STEDUM, & BAEHMAN SCORE FEATURE WINS!

Marshfield, WI, (July 30, 2022) – Marshfield Motor Speedway was host, here today, for the TUNDRA Super Late Models Series Bev Aschenbrenner Memorial.  This, being the sixth annual event honoring the memory of one of the best race fans in racing, lived up to it’s hype!

Fans made the trip to the half-mile paved oval in Central Wisconsin, and enjoyed a great day of racing in support of the Aschenbrenner family.  With the weather hovering around the 80 degree mark, race fumes in the air, and the aroma of the burgers being grilled, fans were noticeably excited for a great day of racing.

With 25-TUNDRA super late models hitting the track for qualifying, it was Verona, Wisconsin’s John Beale topping the charts with a lap time of 18.181 seconds.  Justin Mondeik edged Travis Volm for the win in the dash for the fastest five cars in qualifying.  Heat one winner was Riley Stenjem, holding off Jesse Oudenhoven by 0.569 seconds.  Heat 2 went to Appleton’s Jordan Thiel.  Terry Schoppenhorst finished runner up to Thiel, 0.556 seconds back.

As 25 drivers prepared to take the green flag for the Incredible Bank/A & A Lock Service, Bev Aschenbrenner Memorial 60-lap feature event, it was Rockford, Illinois driver Curt Tillman starting from the pole position.

Once the drivers took the green flag for their 60-lap feature event, it was Tillman jumping out to the early lead over Jerad DeBoer.  As the drivers entered turn 3 on the first lap, the cars of Darren Jackson and Jesse Oudenhoven made contact, sending a half dozen drivers into the turn 3 dirt banking.  Jesse Oudenhoven ended up on top the banking, and Terry Schoppenhorst’s #12 car received may have received the most damage.  Neither car of Oudenhoven or Schoppenhorst were able to continue.

On the restart, it was once again Curt Tillman grabbing the early lead.  Tillman’s lead was brief however, as a very fast Andy Monday quickly worked his way to the top spot.  Monday would hold the top spot for numerous laps, but it was Justin Mondeik motoring through the field.  Mondeik pressed Monday hard for the race lead.  Mondeik cleared Monday for the top spot, and stretched his lead to 8-car lengths.  With Mondeik enjoying a comfortable lead, the battle for second was heating up.  Andy Monday, Mark Eswein, and fast qualifier John Beale, all competed for the runner up spot.  As Eswein looked to get by the #10 of Monday on the outside, that left the door open on the inside for Beale.  Beale made the inside pass of Eswein and Andy Monday, for the second spot.  Mark Eswein, who is fast wherever he competes, was also able to make the inside pass of Monday for the third position.  As the race progressed, it was Mondeik, Beale, and Eswein, your top three drivers.

As the laps counted down, any hopes of the drivers catching the Gleason, Wisconsin hotshoe, it would have to be a caution flag.  Well, with 14 laps remaining, they got what they wished for, a caution flag.  As the driver approached the pick a lane cone, it was last year’s winner, Riley Stenjem choosing the outside lane, and making his restart on the outside pole.  Once the drivers took the green flag for the restart, it was Justin Mondeik once again, jumping out to a 4-car length lead over John Beale.  Once the drivers took the checkered flag, it was Justin Mondeik earning his first Bev Aschenbrenner Memorial event, and third overall TUNDRA win.  Finishing runner up to Mondeik, was John Beale, and Mark Eswein earning the final podium spot.  In post race ceremonies Mondeik thanked the Aschenbrenner family for all their friendship throughout the years, even dating back to his 4-Cylinder racing days.

Also competing tonight, it was the X-Treme 4’s.  Jeremy Kemnetz edged Josh Willhite by 0.275 seconds to earn top honors in qualifying.  Heat winners tonight were Hunter Landwehr and Kemnetz.

Iowa visiting driver Riley Mullen jumped out to the early start in the X-Treme 4’s feature event.  Mullen would hold the lead for two laps, then Brian Marquardt led lap 3 & 4.  Hunter Landwehr made the pass of Marquardt for the race lead, as the two drivers entered turn three.  Joe “Snappy” Kuehn made the trek to Marshfield, and quickly made his presence known.  Kuehn raced his way past Landwehr for the race lead, with teammate Josh Willhite right on his rear bumper.  As Kuehn and Willhite put on quite a show for the fans, Jeremy Kemnetz was closing quickly to the bumper of Willhite.  Kemnetz made the pass of both Kuehn and Willhite, with eight laps remaining, for the race lead.  As the laps diminished, it was Kemnetz stretching his lead to 5-car lengths over Kuehn, whom of which had a mirror full of Josh Willhite.  As the drivers took the checkered flag from starter Tom Ledin, it was Kemnetz earning the feature win and the sweep!  With Kuehn and Willhite finishing in the final podium spots, it was Chad Ferge and Hunter Landwehr rounding out the top five.

Tonight’s 6-Shooter feature was once again highly contested.  In qualifying, 4 drivers were separated by 0.850 seconds, with Tim Anderson earning the pole award.

It was Wausau, WI driver Pat Literski, and Auburndale, WI driver Tim Anderson earning wins in their respective heats.

In feature action for the 6-Shooters, it was Michael Kluck using all 6-cylinders to motor out to a 3-car length lead.  Last year’s track champion, Brandon Van Stedum, quickly worked his way to the second position.  As Van Stedum closed on Kluck for the race lead, fast timer Tim Anderson was closing the gap on Van Stedum.  With eight laps remaining, Michael Kluck pushed up the track in turn two, allowing Brandon Van Stedum to make the inside pass for the race lead.  Anderson would put his #27 machine into the runner up spot, and had his sights set on a very fast Van Stedum car.  With laps counting down, Tim Anderson was able to get within a car length of Van Stedum, but Van Stedum quickly closed the door on Anderson.  As the drivers battled on the final lap, it was Brandon Van Stedum earning the feature win and smashing the hopes of Tim Anderson earning a clean sweep.  Michael Kluck raced his way to a third place finished.

Earning top honors in qualifying and making his return to Marshfield Motor Speedway, it was the #16X of Karl Gennett.  Tripping the clock at 22.770 seconds, Gennett bested Eric Breitenfeldt by 0.467 seconds.

Heat winners tonight in the Bandit division was John Domine & Karl Gennett.

Grabbing the early lead in the Bandit feature, it was Jason Wanta.  Wanta’s lead was brief as gentleman driver Brian Duranceau out powered Wanta down the backstretch, to take the lead away.  Duranceau would lead the next three laps, then it was Eric Breitenfeldt’s turn at the front of the field.  Breitenfeldt, a regular visitor to the McDonald’s Drive Thru Victory Lane, had a mirror full of a very fast 16X machine.  Gennett looked to be setting up Breitenfeldt for the race lead.  He would look low, then dart to the outside.  With six laps remaining, Gennett motored to the high side, and made the pass of Breitenfeldt for the race lead.  Tom Lecher, in his #12 Bandit, made the pass of Duranceau for the third position with 3 laps remaining.  Gennett, who made his first appearance tonight after taking several years off, cruised to the feature win, and taking home the Kim Parson’s Memorial Trophy.  With Eric Breitenfeldt and Tom Lecher locking in the final two podium spots, it was Brian Duranceau and John Domine rounding out the top five.

The final and possibly the most excitable division competing tonight, was the Skidders.  Ryan Bentz moved his skidder to the top position as the drivers took the count down to the start of the race.  On lap 3, it was Mark Hagen putting his #21 car to the runner up position.  Hagen pressed for the lead in the middle of 3 and 4, but lost control of his car.  Jake Baehman grabbed the lead on lap four, but with two laps remaining, it was Joey Kuhn moving his #8 car to the top spot.  On the final lap and exiting turn two, Kuhn spun, and Baehman regained the lead.  Kuhn quickly regained control of his car, and drove down Baehman, but it was Jake Baehman holding of Joey Kuhn by a half-car length, for the race win.  Pocketing the final podium spot was the #580 of Ryan Bentz.
