Cyberpunk 2077 Modders Are Already Hard At Work Fixing the Game
Cyberpunk 2077 officially released a few days ago, and the modding community is already hard at work to fix the game and ensure a more dynamic experience for players who finally got their hands on CD Projekt Red's blockbuster release. While a larger number of more complex mods expected to be shared in the near future, the majority of the Nexus Mods community has been focusing its attention on changes designed to help give players a smoother journey through Night City.
Despite turning a profit almost immediately at launch, Cyberpunk 2077 is riddled with countless bugs that are leaving early buyers frustrated. Early reviews pointed out the incessant glitches that plague the game on all platforms, some of which cause the game to crash or prevent players from progressing in the storyline. However, it was widely believed that the majority of these game-breaking bugs would be rooted out upon the game's full release, as CD Projekt Red promised the Day One patch would fix most issues. This obviously was not the case in reality, however.
According to TechRaptor, Cyberpunk 2077 mods remain fairly simple and straightforward for now. The mods largely focus on improving the graphics through surface-level modifications. Character customization presets are also being prioritized along with graphical reshades. These creative players are also focusing their attention on the game's controls and user interface, as many have felt they are not as intuitive as they ideally should be. One control scheme mods specifically seek to address the dodging mechanic, since many players agree it is needlessly unintuitive. Mods intended to introduce new characters or quests will likely be incorporated into the game at a later point, but for now fixing the base experience on PC is the main goal of these thankless programmers and artists.
Despite being highly anticipated by fans eager for a new CD Projekt Red RPG masterpiece, it has been anything but a smooth launch week for Cyberpunk 2077. An endless stream of reports continue to overshadow the full game's release, such as the fact that Cyberpunk 2077's HDR support on PS5 and Xbox Series X is broken. Despite the Day One patch's efforts, bugs and glitches continue to define the new game for many, and it appears that base Xbox One and PS4 players are experiencing the worst of it. Currently, there is no gaming system or console that has not been affected by the game's faulty design. Even PC players are experiencing frustrations of their own (beyond a similar suite of bugs and crashes), as Steam crashed due to excessive launch traffic as players lined up to play the sci-fi RPG, preventing other players from purchasing it for a short while.
All of this relates back to what most already knew: Cyberpunk 2077 required additional work before being released. After multiple delays, it is understandable that CD Projekt Red did not want to disappoint the enthusiastic fans who have stuck with them through what feels like a never-ending storm of controversies. However, it is clear that the game needs substantial improvement before these widely reported issues can be ground out. For now, PC players will have to rely on the modding community to conjure some solutions of their own to the title's many problems.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia, and it will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
