What Nicolas Cage Could Look Like as The Terminator | Screen Rant
Terminator fan art envisions Nicolas Cage in the role of the cyborg assassin who has traditionally been played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
A popular digital creator has taken to Instagram to showcase Nicolas Cage as the infamous Terminator. The popular Terminator franchise took the world by storm with the 1984 science fiction film. Since then, the ever-expanding franchise has pumped out six Terminator films, a television show, and two web series.
The title of "Terminator" is actually used by various cyborgs throughout the film franchise. However, the most well known cyborg assassin in the series is arguably the first Terminator played by Arnorld Schwarzenegger who makes his debut in the eponymous film. As such, The Terminator follows the killer as he returns from the future to track down and assassinate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). While the mission is unsuccessful and the original Terminator destroyed, Arnold Schwarzenegger reprised the role as other machines bearing the same appearance.
Although Schwarzenegger became a household name through his portrayal of the cyborg assassin, digital artist spdrmnkyxxiii has reimagined Nicolas Cage in the titular role. In spdrmnkyxxiii's Instagram post, Cage wears the classic shades and leather jacket of the Terminator while assuming a fighting stance. He holds a gun in one hand and has an ominous red glow from his cybernetic eye reflecting off his sunglasses. You can catch this cool new vision of the Terminator below:
While Schwarzenegger will always remain as the original Terminator, perhaps there may be a chance that Cage could take over the role in the future. While 2019's Terminator: Dark Fate received generally positive critical reviews, the Terminator franchise has been lagging, despite big names behind the project. Although some speculate that only James Cameron's return to the director's chair can revive the franchise, perhaps a new lead actor could revitalize the series as well. Even though it's difficult to envision a successful Terminator movie without Schwarzenegger's involvement, dragging box office sales indicate that the time may have come for a drastic franchise refresh.
In spite of the tepid audience reception today, The Terminator continues to remain one of the most recognizable films out there. More specifically, its cultural significance cannot be understated; not only has the series been referenced in a variety of popular media, but it has spawned some major A-list stars as well. Despite all this, though, it's clear that the series may be on its last leg if significant changes don't occur. As such, while spdrmnkyxxiii's creation is incredible in it of itself, perhaps it also a nod towards what needs to be done in order to bring the Terminator franchise back to life.
