The CHP blocked four lanes at Somersville Road to investigate and issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic.
PITTSBURG — A motorcyclist died early Monday morning in a crash on westbound Highway 4, the California Highway Patrol said.
The CHP initially reported that the motorcyclist had critical injuries but confirmed the fatality just before 9 a.m.
Four lanes at Somersville Road were blocked, so the CHP could investigate. The agency issued a Sig Alert for severe traffic. Only the far left lane was open on a highway that historically has been one of the Bay Area’s slowest commutes.
The crash happened around 8 a.m., according to the agency.
The CHP said it was sorting out details, but a big rig also was in the vicinity during the wreck, and initial reports to the agency indicated the motorcycle may have hit two vehicles.
No other information was available immediately.
