Week 2 of WESFA Cup Finals saw the Leader Trophy Final for Division Three teams kick off at VCD at 1030, between Baldon Sports Reserves and Peckham Rye. The game started evenly with both sides forcing good chances, then came the stoppage. George Bewsey and a Peckham Rye player went in for the ball together and neither held back in a fair but thumping challenge, and it was quickly clear the George had come off the worst of the two. A quick assessment and it was quickly decided that an ambulance would be required and it must have been fate that Daniel Davis was 4th official as he is a Paramedic in his day job. Being able to talk to the Ambulance service and give exact details of the injury certainly helped as the game was delayed for 36 minutes. Ten minutes into the restart and Baldon were in the lead with a freak goal. Ryan Mehmet’s long free kick from somewhere near the halfway line floated over and onto the bar, it then hit keeper Mick Holman as everyone scrambled for the goal and ended up in the back of the net. One both players will remember forever but for all the wrong reasons. Baldon continued to have the better of the chances, but John Woolley was a constant thorn in the Baldon defence for Peckham. The second half saw Peckham Rye forcing good chances with that man Woolley going close again and Craig Parsons firing over from inside the six yard box with the keeper beaten. Baldon struck back as Lewis Togwell fired over from the edge of the area. Then with 5 minutes left it all went bonkers as Anthony Dennis got in bravely and headed the equaliser for Peckham Rye. Extra time was looming, but Joshua Evans had a different idea for Baldon Sports and headed the winner 2 minutes later.

The afternoon’s final was the Win Jones Memorial Bowl Final between Springhill United and Turk Ocagi Limasol Russellers. Springhill started sharply, with most of the possession but Turk Ocagi looked very dangerous on the break, and this is how the game continued until the 39th minute when Carl Obiltey fired in to put TOL Russellers into the lead, and the noisy TOL following didn’t have to wait long for a second as Taylor Jay-Heyward swept into the empty net after Lewis Hoadley’s save. Was this to be the half-time score? No of course it wasn’t! An excellent attack saw a Springhill shot on goal, superbly cleared off the line by a TOL defender, but it fell to Aaron Miller who dispatched the ball into the back of the net to leave the half time score as 2-1. The game continued in and end to end fashion until Tijani Eshiokun smashed the ball home from the edge of the area to seal the win for TOL Russellers and consign Springhill United to defeat.
Elsewhere from the finals there was a mouth watering Semi Final as the very highly rated Orpington & Bromley side Lullingstone visited Welling Town A in the Plumstead Challenge Cup Semi Final and it was the WESFA side who progress to the final thanks to Sam Bailey who struck all four goals in a 4-2 win to set up a final against the Plumstead Challenge Cup holders Bayswater RK in a repeat of the Pat Tansley Cup Final at the start of the season.
In the Peter Smith Memorial Cup, beaten President’s Cup finalists Barnehurst had the chance to get to another Final, but the small matter of Senior Division Under the Radar stood in their way, and the did more than stand, running out 4-2 winners thanks to goals from Manny Brown, Jedidiah Brown & Toulope Jonah. Luke Coleman and Chris Johnson were on target for Barnehurst, but it’s Under the Radar who will contest the first ever Peter Smith Cup Final against that team Bayswater in an all Senior Division Final to be held at Meridian Sports Club on 12 May with a 2:30pm kick off.

Into league action and a massive game at the top of the Supreme Engraving Senior Division between Long Lane and Bayswater RK and it was Long Lane who took over the driving seat to the Senior Division title with a 3-0 win taking them above Under the Radar who were in cup action. Femi & Keith Orenuga both hit the target as did Ryan Brown, to take Long Lane 2 points ahead of Under the Radar at the summit of the table with the same number of games played. Bayswater and Springhill United have 3 games in hand but are 12 points off of top spot with 5 to play. A shock at the foot of the table where Mottingham Forest managed their third league win of the season, winning 4-3 at South East Athletic Maroon. Joseph Brown, Jamie Clarke, Connor Ives & Reece Williams all on target meaning the SEA efforts from Edward Holbrook (2) and Edward Childs were in vain.
In the Danson Property Services Division One, FC Royals confirmed their champion status with a 7-0 win over 4th placed Bostall Rangers. That man Douane West hit a hat-trick, while Tyrone Headley, Stefan Jones, Jerel Morris and Richard Fowler were all on target. Elsewhere goals from Jordon Johnson and Aaron Escudier meant that 3rd placed Mottingham Park Rangers and 6th placed FC Forza Greenwich share the points.
In the ABA Technical Division Two Beacons finished the season on a high with a 5-3 win over Danson Albion. Callum Flynn and Taylor Lewis both bagged a brace for Beacons while Ronaldo Lleshi was also on target. Billy Standen (2) and Jon Wayment were both on target for Danson who are one point ahead of Danson in 6th spot with one to play that could leave them finishing in 5th.
