Former BJP MP Putul Singh to contest as independent in Bihar
Bihar BJP vice-president Putul Singh, whose Banka seat was allotted to ally JD(U) under a seat sharing arrangement, on Sunday said she would contest from the constituency as an independent candidate.
Putul, the wife of former Union minister and three- term Banka MP Digvijay Singh, said it is beyond understanding as to why the BJP was "forced to surrender before the JD(U)", and why did it not keep a single seat in east Bihar and Kosi region.
"I will contest from Banka Lok Sabha seat and will file my nomination papers as an independent candidate tomorrow (March 25)," she told reporters here.
Putul lost to RJD's Jay Prakash Narayan Yadav in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Banka.
The Bihar BJP leader said she would contest as an independent candidate in order to "protect the constituency from criminals" as well the rights of the workers of the district unit of the party, even if it expels her.
