Maidstone United are currently the holders of the Kent Senior Cup and last season, they beat Gillingham at the quarter final stage back in January 2018. The game was the first competitive fixture between the two sides in 26 years and the Stones won 2-1 thanks to goals from Reece Prestedge and Jack Paxman.
Much has changed at the Stones over the past year since that match. Only Paxman remains with Maidstone from the squad that night and Maidstone now have John Still as Head of Football and Hakan Hayrettin as Head Coach in charge.
The Stones reached this stage of the competition by beating Dartford at Princes Park in January. The game had finished 1-1 but Maidstone won on penalties. Gillingham beat Herne Bay in the previous round with a 4-1 win at Winch’s Field.
