Postage stamp released in Montana honors first responders
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service has released a new stamp in Montana that honors emergency responders.
The Missoulian reports the stamp was released Wednesday at the Aerial Fire Depot and Smokejumper Center in Missoula.
Local law enforcement officers, firefighting officials and medical personnel accepted the honor.
Doug Stephens, manager of the Postal Service's Dakotas-Montana District, called first responders the backbone of their communities.
Guy Cottrell, the Postal Service's chief postal inspector, says the agency gets more than 30,000 requests each year for new commemorative stamps, and only 20 or 30 are selected.
Cottrell says people have been asking for the first responders stamp for a long time.
