Mumbai cruise terminal to be revamped
Soon on the lines of airports, the union government may allow private companies to develop Cruise terminals on Operation & Maintenance basis. Some of the ports that have been shortlisted for the first batch are -- Mumbai, Goa, New Mangalore, Kochi and Chennai. One such terminal at Mumbai Port is being built by the government at an investment of about Rs 197 crore which would be tendered for the O&M contract upon completion."We are fully funding the hard infrastructure and providing complete building solutions at an expenditure of about Rs 197 crore. Inside of the terminal requires a lot of other facilities including retail space to be provided by the PPP (public-private-partnership) operator and O&M to be done by a private company," the official said.The government is hopeful that the world's leading companies would compete with each other to bag the O&M contract for the cruise terminal at the Mumbai Port.
