The Hague (dpa) - The Eritrean embassy in The Hague is demanding a so-called diaspora tax of 2 per cent on earnings from its refugees living in the Netherlands.Important documents are also only issued after the Eritrean refugees have signed a declaration saying they regret leaving their home country, Dutch broadcaster VPRO cited research team Argos as saying.A member of parliament for the left-liberal party D66, Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, demanded on Thursday that the Dutch government close the East African country‘s embassy.According to the broadcaster, which recorded a conversation with a refugee at the embassy, Eritreans are being told that the diaspora tax is a "fair penalty" for their behaviour.Dutch Foreign Minister Halbe Zijlstra said the recording shows an "alarming picture."
