The mysterious death of the most inspiring star of Africa
Kehinde and Taiwo Oshadipe are best known as the Oshadipe twins. They used to be the shining stars of the African music industry. Until one of the stars passed away. In 2014, Taiwo died. It was a huge shock for everyone. This story is not only about death. It is about life and hope. Read the biography of the sisters and find out what really happened.
Life of the Oshadipe twins
The sisters were famous for their dynamic and inspiring approach to their music. They performed gospel songs and contemporary music as well. They were born and brought up in Lagos. However they are natives of Ondo State.
Their career started when they began to sing at church events. The original name of their duet was “The Angelic Voices”. Later they changed it to the “Oshadipe twins” when they wanted to release their first album. They released two professional albums: “Jesus came to Africa” in 1999 and “I am the child of I am” that was released in 2001.
They were very notable within the African music industry. Oshadipe twins once performed on stage with world-famous musical artists like Michael Bolton, Tope Alabi, King Sunny Ade and many others.

The sisters performed live for one of the most influential people in Nigeria at the time. Governors Adams Oshiomole, Gbenga Daniel and others were fans of their talent. Taiwo and Kehinde were the members of a versatile group called “Compassion Band”. It was very well known that they were passionate contributors to charity organizations, like Little Saints Orphanage.
In 2013 their fans were constantly asking them to release a new single. They started working on Iyanu (meaning “Miracle”). It seemed to everyone that the twins were really putting the miracle of their voices into the single. The song was about the goodness of God that can be seen in our lives. The main goal of the song was to inspire and encourage people to live on, even in the darkest periods of life.
At a point in their career, everyone thought that the girls were going to abandon their music. This was when the sisters joined the movie industry. To be more specific, Super Story TV-series by Wale Adenuga. People called them “Nollywood twin-actresses”. However, they ended up returning to what was really important to them and to many people in Africa: music that would give hope.
Taiwo Oshadipe's death
After Taiwo gave birth to her son, she was constantly falling ill. She always complained that she felt weak. It started about half a year after her son was born, in April 2013. They were visiting the doctors on a regular basis to find out what was wrong.
Eventually it got to the point that it was unbearable. They decided to take Taiwo to General Hospital for continuous treatment under the monitoring of doctors. The specialists had experience and all the required equipment to diagnose what could have been wrong with Taiwo.
At first, when the girl was taken to the hospital, the doctors referred her to the Rheumatology Department. When she was admitted, she was told to undergo some medical tests. It was after the diagnosis that Lupus was identified as the main cause of Taiwo’s critical condition. The sisters did not know what that meant.
Lupus is a disease that affected the human immune system. It causes the system to attack healthy tissues in the body. The symptoms can vary depending on the individual: starting from general fatigue and ending with hair and teeth loss.
The causes of this disease are unclear up to this day. Doctors think that it involves genetics and some environmental factors. In the case of identical twins, there is a 24-percent risk that if one is affected, the other one can be as well.
According to Kehinde’s words in an interview that she gave in 2015, there were many disease crises. Sometimes Taiwo could go blank and loose her eyesight. One day she fainted. Sometimes she would cough out the blood and keep losing her strength. She did not eat anything at all when the disease progressed critically.
On October, 2014 Taiwo passed away. In an official statement, it was said that she died after a brief illness. Sometime later, it was said the cause was Lupus disease. Taiwo left her husband and an infant son.
In 2015, Kehinde Oshadipe started a program of Lupus Awareness in the country. In October, 2015 she led the African celebrities to a walk in order to further give people a chance to learn about this disease.
