Amir Khan called out by British champion Bradley Skeete
Bradley Skeete wants to fight Amir Khan having missed out on a bout with Jeff Horn.
Amir Khan has been called out by British welterweight champion Bradley Skeete. The 30-year-old won the Lord Lonsdale belt in July and now wants to fight at world level having failed so secure a fight with WBO Welterweight Champion Jeff Horn.
Khan has not fought since Canelo Alvarez brutally knocked the 31-year-old Bolton-born puncher out in 2016. It is rumoured Khan is eyeing a boxing comeback following a stint on British reality TV show I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
Speaking on the BoxNation Podcast, Skeete said:
"Now he's coming back at 147, that's a fight I'd love. That's a massive fight for the British public. He's a world level fighter - that's the level I want to mix at, so why not? I believe that's a great fight. The likes of Amir Khan are good to test myself against.
"I respect him and a I rate him as a fighter. I know he's basing himself back in the UK. I've got world rankings with the governing bodies. I'm the British Champion at the weight. If he's looking at a fight, then why not fight me?
"If it wasn't for Jeff Horn and his team swerving the fight, then I'd be World Champion by Christmas. I'd have went over there and got that World Title.
"The facts were; I got offered the fight, I accepted the fight, the terms and everything were agreed. Obviously they did their research and came back saying they're looking at another opponent. They swerved the fight. Deep down they knew I was going out there and I would've give them a boxing lesson!
"I need meaningful fights now. I'm at that level. I cleared up domestically, I'm not looking back. With Kell Brook moving up to Light-Middle, I'm the number one at the weight."
Skeete has one professional defeat from 28 fights, having lost to Frankie Gavin by unanimous decision for the vacant Commonwealth welterweight strap and BBBofC British welterweight title in 2014.
London-born Skeete is ranked third by the WBO and sixth with the IBF and is due to fight on February 10th in London, alongside Zolani Tete, Anthony Yarde, and Daniel Dubois.
