The Nigerian Senate's intervention in the arrest of Chief Innocent Chukwuma, the chairman of Innoson Motors who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, December 19 has paid of.
Chukwuma was released by the anti-graft body after the Senate committee on anti-corruption and financial crimes called the acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.
This was revealed at the Senate plenary today, Thursday, December 21 by the chairman of the committee, Senator Chukwuka Utazi (PDP, Enugu).

According to Senator Utazi, his committee spoke to Magu and his team at the EFCC, which prompted the release of Chukwuma.
He also revealed that the famous manufacturer called afterwards to thank the Senate for its intervention in the case.
On Wednesday, December 20, the upper chamber ordered the committee to investigate the matter and report to it in 24 hours.
The lawmakers began deliberation on the matter after deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, raised the issue during plenary.
Ekweremadu who cited order 42 and 52, faulted the EFCC for arresting Chukwuma over a personal transaction the business man had with a certain commercial bank.
