LMAO look at how many top-10 recruits just signed with either Clemson or Georgia
What’d we learn in the opening day of the first Early Signing Period? That the Dawgs and Tigers are still building behemoths, first of all.
2018's top 10 college football recruits, per the 247Sports Composite:
- QB Trevor Lawrence, Clemson signee
- QB Justin Fields, Georgia signee
- DE Xavier Thomas, Clemson signee
- DE Micah Parsons, Penn State signee
- CB Patrick Surtain Jr., uncommitted
- RB Zamir White, Georgia signee
- DE Eyabi Anoma, Alabama signee
- DE K.J. Henry, Clemson signee
- OT Jackson Carman, Clemson signee
- OG Jamaree Salyer, Georgia signee
In case it's not obvious, I've bolded the players who signed during the first day of the inaugural Early Signing Period with either Georgia or Clemson. This is absurd.
UGA has overtaken Ohio State for the No. 1 class, while Clemson's tiny class would certainly rank in the top five if it had a few more players. Georgia signed six five-stars, which ties various Alabamas and a Florida and a USC for the all-time record. Every recruiting service agrees the Tigers and Dawgs signed the best two quarterbacks and overall prospects, though they differ on the order.
The dynasty isn't over — Alabama's in the Playoff and slightly favored to win it, after all — but the torch has to pass at some point. The team that knocked off the Tide in last year's National Championship and the team building a Bama knockoff in a far more talented state look even more like heirs now.
Just imagine having enough clout to tweet a reaction GIF of yourself.

More college football
- If you have literally a minute, fill out this survey and help make SB Nation better for you.
- For Georgia, this is just the beginning.
- K.J. Henry had the day's best announcement, letting a beloved assistant coach make his Clemson announce for him.
- The most dramatic signing of the day: five-star OT Jackson Carman to Ohio State, because any time Ohio State doesn't get what it wants, a nation descends into crisis.
- That ^ also involves Dabo Swinney allegedly implying to Carman that Urban Meyer ain't long for coaching.
- It gets weirder! That ^ and another Ohio State miss both involve Kirk Herbstreit in strange ways.
- On paper, Texas signed the best group of DBs ever.
- Florida landed a big flip: QB Emory Jones from Ohio State.
- P.J. Fleck just racked up Minnesota's highest-ranked class ever, which is kind of the reason you hire P.J. Fleck.
- Ole Miss had a pretty impressive day, signing QB Matt Corral and adding a few names to land in the top 40 despite NCAA sactions.
- Maryland has a second straight top-25 class, including former No. 3 overall recruit Byron Cowart from Auburn.
- Michigan flipped a recruit from Germany away from Georgia Tech. Sure!
- Florida now has two linebackers named David Reese, lol.
- The legend of Coach O now includes him barreling into a recruit's kitchen and fixing himself some red beans and rice.
- A player from Florida tried to announce a commit to South Carolina, so "South Florida" was what came out. It happens.
- Bill Snyder is apparently waiting until after the Signing Period to decide whether he's gonna coach Kansas State next year. Oh, OK.
- You know how you can kind of always tell which hat the recruit is gonna pick, based on details about the hat? We've amended Hat Theory with Visor Theory.
- Two more days of Early Signing Period to go. This here includes the best players still available.
