- It accused the federal government of trading blame rather than coming clean about the cause of the scarcity
The national president of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Comrade Igwe Achese, has hinted that there might be a hidden reason for the emergence of long queues at filling stations all over Nigeria.
Achese called on both the federal government, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to tell Nigerians the truth about the cause of the ongoing scarcity, The Independent reports.

He added that none of the two labour unions in the oil sector are on strike and there is no justification whatsoever for the unavailability of fuel in filling stations.
He said: “NUPENG reiterated the need for the Federal Government; the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, and the NNPC to tell the nation what is actually happening, as the two labour unions in the sector are not on strike."
He added that it was a national shame and embarrassment for the citizens to celebrate the Christmas under the current atmosphere when Nigeria is the seventh largest producer of crude oil.
He urged the government to stop trading blames and address the scarcity as soon as possible.

Recall that NUPENG had earlier said that Nigerians should be expecting regular supply of petroleum products during the festive season.
The new chairman of southwest chapter of NUPENG, Tayo Aboyeji, gave the assurance in an interview in Lagos.
He said tanker drivers would work throughout the festive season to ensure that filling stations in the southwest get sufficient products.
