Breaking: INEC registers 21 new political parties, sacks staff for double registration of Governor Yahaya Bello
Twenty-one new political parties were on Thursday registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Twenty-one new political parties have been registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The commission in a press statement on Thursday, December 14, disclosed the names of the new parties among which is All Blending Party (ABP) and Justice Must Prevail Party (JMPP), Vanguard reports.
The electoral body listed the associations to have fulfilled the constitutional requirements for registration as political parties below:
The total number of registered political parties in Nigeria is now 67 following the latest additions by INEC, Premium Time reports.

The commission also approved immediate and compulsory retirement of a member of staff and the dismissal of two others in Kogi office over act of gross misconduct.
It said that the action was taken against the three members of staff over their involvement in alleged double registration of Governor Yahaya Bello in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
“Following reports of the alleged double registration by the Governor of Kogi State in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), the Commission set up a panel of investigation into the involvement of staff in the matter.
“The initial report submitted by the panel was referred to the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee, which made recommendations to the Commission.
It added that the decision was taken in respect of its staff while the governor currently enjoys immunity from prosecution.
Meanwhile, a political party has asked the Anambra state gubernatorial electoral tribunal to nullify the victory of the state governor, Willie Obiano, in the just concluded gubernatorial race.
The party, the African People’s Party (APP), in a petition filed before the tribunal said there was alleged substantial noncompliance of the electoral act during the elections.
The petition with reference number: EPT/AN/Gov/01/2017 is dated December 7.
The APP alleged that during the election, there were multiple thumb printing of ballot papers, false accreditation, manipulations and bribery of electoral officers.
