Becky G’s ‘Mayores’ Music Video Surpasses Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ on YouTube
It came as no shock when Taylor Swift’s November album Reputation became a pop-music sensation. The video for the single “Look What You Made Me Do” immediately broke records, garnering the most YouTube global streams in a span of 24 hours. The track even dethroned “Despacito,” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber, from the Billboard Hot 100 after 16 weeks at the top.
But now, it’s Swift’s turn to be unseated. The music video for Becky G’s “Mayores” featuring Bad Bunny surpassed “LWYMMD” in YouTube views this week. As of Dec. 13, “Mayores” has garnered 789,889,523 views while the chart-topping “Look What You Made Me Do” earned 776,296,805 views to date.
The dueling visual gems are both highly stylized but have very different themes. Becky G’s sultry and romantic offering, which dropped in July 2017, features a love interest, Jennifer Lopez’s ex-boyfriend Beau “Casper” Smart, 30, who dated the Shades of Blue actress off and on from late 2011 until summer 2016. The seductively clad 20-year-old gets flirty with Smart’s character at a bar and things get hot and heavy later when the singer handcuffs him to a bed.
“Look What You Made Me Do,” on the other hand, gives off a vengeful vibe and starts off with the superstar as a zombie climbing out of her grave. Released a month after “Mayores,” the video claps back at both her haters and frenemies such as Kim Kardashian West, Kanye West and Katy Perry. The final moments — featuring 14 Taylors standing in front of a jet using common lines of criticism the artist has faced throughout her career — caused a social media storm.
