The Alfred Mizzi Foundation is helping make this Christmas that much more bearable for children of inmates at the Corradino Rehabilitation Centre. A €1,000 donation was made to the Prison Fellowship organisation.
Prison Fellowship Malta chairman Mark Vella said his NGO has been offering free services to dependants of prison inmates for the past 24 years and was part of Prison Fellowship International present in 120 countries. He added that the NGO was inspired by the Gospel according to Matthew 25: “I was in prison and you came to visit Me.”
Prison Fellowship visits foreign prisoners who have no one visiting them and buys clothing for prisoners who have no relatives supporting them. Regular meetings with inmates at the male and female sections at Corradino, as well as the Youths section at Mtahleb, are held.
Activities for children of prisoners and ex-prisoners are held all year round. All activities are always free. Teachers and ex-teachers coordinate these activities.
Some of the needs of 120 children from 22 localities in Malta and Gozo are catered for and support to families with members in correctional facilities are seen to by providing foodstuffs.
