The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov suggested broadcasting Ukrainian TV channels, including in Russian, to the whole world. He stated this on March 2 in an interview with the program “Visiting Dmitry Gordon”, published on the video hosting YouTube.
According to the minister, the Russian language refers not only to Russia, but, like Russian culture, is also of interest to Ukrainian citizens.
“I would initiate that our TV channels (broadcast) all over the world, including Russian-speaking … The Russian language, or, as I call it, the Slobozhansky language in our case, does not belong (only) to Russia. In Ukraine, the state language is Ukrainian … But the Russian language and Russian language culture largely belong to the Ukrainians. Why should I give it away? ” – said the official.
Avakov also believes that Ukrainian TV channels in Russian would be in demand among foreign viewers.
As reported by IA REGNUM, from September 1, 2020, the Ukrainian authorities banned all Russian-language schools in the country to teach in Russian, starting from the fifth grade. From January 16, 2021, enterprises operating in the field of trade and services in Ukraine are required to serve customers only in Ukrainian. On February 5, the Ukrainian president of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced that Ukraine would not allow anyone to “privatize” the Russian language.
