Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin believes that in the near future it is necessary to think about how to minimize the risks from the “Rodchenkov Act” for Russian athletes. He negatively assessed the US anti-doping law.
“One country assumes the right to be a kind of judge. We have a negative attitude to this, it will be necessary in the near future to think about how to minimize the risks for Russian athletes, “said Mr. Matytsin on the air of the Match! Country”. According to him, the unified sports community, including the World Anti-Doping Agency, is of the opinion that the law may lead to an imbalance in the anti-doping system.
On December 5, US President Donald Trump signed the Rodchenkov Act. The law provides for the possibility of prosecution by the United States of any person for involvement in a doping conspiracy at international competitions with the participation of the United States. It is named after the former director of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory, Grigory Rodchenkov. His testimony was based on the report of the independent WADA expert Richard McLaren on doping in Russian sports. Due to the information received, the Russian national team was forced to compete at the Olympics in Pyeongchang under a neutral flag and in a heavily curtailed composition.
