Higgins: Parker ready for a summer fight against Chisora
Parker and Chisora previously held negotiations that broke down.
According to Joseph Parker’s promoter David Higgins, the former heavyweight titleholder is ready to re-enter negotiations to stage a summer fight against Dereck Chisora — if the two can agree to terms. That if may or may turn out to be a major question though, as the fighters previously broke off talks to hold a fight this Spring.
Instead Chisora went go on take on Senad Gashi this past weekend, earning a unanimous decision after 10 rounds of action, but Parker’s promoter says they’re still prepared to hash things out for a more notable fight.
“Joe will fight anyone,” Higgins told Sky Sports. “He will certainly fight Derek Chisora, it’s just a matter of agreeing terms. It’s the same as April, we just need to close a deal, and that fight can happen.
“Joseph respects Chisora, but I don’t think he fears him. Chisora on his day does take a punch, he’s knocked a few people out over the years, so you can never take anyone for granted.”
David Haye, who currently works as part of Chisora’s management team, has previously indicated that Chisora was still open to reaching a deal with Parker, saying that Parker would be the perfect opponent for his fighter.
