Several course winners head back to scenic Ripon in this competitive heat, with eight set to go to post.
None are more regular in North Yorkshire than Mulligatawny – who has run sixteen times here.
He’s shown some form on his two comeback runs this season, but looks like Roger Fell’s horse may need a bit more help from the handicapper just yet.
Chris Fairhurst’s Benadalid is prolific at Ripon – scoring three times from the six visits.
He has to be a huge threat here and certainly doesn’t look handicapped out of things after a 4lbs rise for his latest win.
Given his hold-up style he does need races to fall his way and I’d just be willing to take him on this time.
James Tate has a fantastic record at Ripon. From his last 21 runners, he has had 11 winners, two seconds and three thirds – not bad going.
And his SAMEEM looks the one to be with here on his second start since being gelded.
He is only 4lbs higher than a course and distance win last July and followed that up with a Listed win on soft ground. Any rain would clearly not be a problem, too.
He emptied quickly at Haydock on his reappearance – and while he won first time up last season – suggesting he needed that run.
The runaway winner that day blew the race apart and the form is probably a bit questionable in behind anyway. A return to calmer waters at Ripon should see him return to his best.
And if there is any progression in this horse at four he should take this race. He’ll be ridden positively and the small field should suit.

It’s doubtful whether he’ll get it all his own way out front with Nicklaus also a potential pace angle.
William Haggas is another Newmarket trainer with a superb record at Ripon and his horse has to be feared here, even if they are slight stamina doubts. He’s only a pound higher than his last winning mark, but didn’t manage a win all of last year.
Dark Jedi won very easily last time out at Hamilton and appears under a penalty here. The more the rain the better for him, but this is a step up and he needs to show more again on top of that.
