SITKA, Alaska (AP) — Don't expect U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski to weigh in on President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee anytime soon. The Alaska Republican told a chamber of commerce audience in Sitka that there are "many more weeks to go" before she will publicly weigh in on Brett Kavanaugh's nomination. (AP) — Three Louisiana State Troopers who improperly billed thousands of dollars of overtime and expenses, including a 2016 trip to Las Vegas, have had their punishments significantly reduced. The Advocate of Baton Rouge reports the State Police Commission on Thursday deemed the discipline too harsh. It voted to restore the ranks of Derrell Williams and Rodney Hyatt and reverse salary reductions for the pair. The troopers were ordered to serve suspensions as a less severe form of punishment. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Following the death of a 10-year-old boy, state officials will audit Los Angeles County's child welfare agency to determine whether it adequately protects children. The California legislative audit committee on Wednesday approved a request from Sens. Ricardo Lara and Scott Wilk and Assemblyman Tom Lackey to review LA County's Department of Children and Family Services. Legislators noted that Anthony Avalos had been the subject of 13 calls to the department and that he may have come out as gay before his death.

GALVESTON, Texas (AP) — A Texas grand jury on Thursday indicted a 17-year-old student accused of fatally shooting 10 people in May at a Houston-area high school. Dimitrios Pagourtzis was formally indicted on charges that include capital murder of multiple persons. Under Texas law, capital murder carries an automatic sentence of life in prison with a parole option for those younger than 18. The Vikings lost a key member of their offensive line Thursday when left guard Nick Easton was placed on injured reserve because of a bulging disk in his neck. Head coach Mike Zimmer made the announcement at a news conference. Easton hadn’t practiced since last Friday because of the injury. (AP) — A man charged with starting a Southern California wildfire that has burned 12 cabins and forced at least 20,000 people from their homes refused to go to court Thursday, delaying his initial court appearance. The arraignment for Forrest Clark was supposed to be Thursday, but the judge in the case said the suspect refused to go to court. His arraignment was rescheduled for Friday. Las Vegas police officer Larry Hadfield says Nicholas was arrested Tuesday at a Las Vegas Strip casino-resort on suspicion of trafficking heroin, cocaine, meth and ecstasy. Hadfield says police responded to the casino-resort following a report from security, which had found contraband in a room.
