Where ‘Last Chance U’ stars from all 3 seasons are in 2018

0

Here’s where the show’s biggest names will be this fall.

JUCO football doc series Last Chance U is now back with its third season on Netflix. It’s excellent again.

In light of that, it's time to catch up on where the show's alumni are for the 2018 season. These aren't all the players who went through East Mississippi Community College during its two seasons or Independence CC during Season 3, but they are the ones the show's featured most prominently.

(Some spoilers, obviously.)

Season 1 at EMCC

  • EMCC’s leadership got a major shake-up at the end of 2016. Tempestuous head coach Buddy Stephens is still at EMCC for 2018, but OC Marcus Wood is off the coaching staff, DC Ed Holly left to become the head coach at Westminster Christian School in Florida, and QB coach Clint Trickett left for the tight ends job at FAU.

  • QB John Franklin III, formerly of Florida State, was long hyped as Auburn's next star JUCO QB. At Auburn, he switched to WR, then moved to Lane Kiffin’s “Last Strike U” at FAU. He’s now an undrafted DB with the Chicago Bears.

  • RB D.J. Law signed with UAB but didn’t join the Blazers. Injuries and academics hampered him, and head coach Bill Clark said the RB could play in the NAIA (non-NCAA college ball) or Canada.

  • DL Ronald Ollie, Season 1’s comic relief and most beloved player among viewers, transferred to FCS Nicholls State. He recorded 41 tackles and this Piesman-worthy TD, then hoped to transfer up to FBS, but will keep playing at Nicholls for 2018.
  • DL Marcel Andry followed Ollie, then completed his eligibility at Nicholls.

  • DB C.J. Reavis became one of Marshall’s leading tacklers for two years, then signed a UDFA deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Before EMCC, he was expected to start for Virginia Tech until a murky dismissal.
  • QB Chad Kelly, mentioned a few times during the show as a former EMCC great, became the NFL Draft’s Mr. Irrelevant out of Ole Miss and is on the Denver Broncos’ depth chart.

Season 2 at EMCC

  • QB De'Andre Johnson was booted by FSU after video showed he'd punched a woman at a bar. At EMCC, the show depicts Division I coaches being cautious about showing interest in him. He played in only a handful of games for Kiffin’s FAU in 2017, due to blood clots, but is competing for the Owls’ 2018 starting job.

  • DL Tim Bonner is also still at FAU. You wouldn't put it past Kiffin to add people just because they're on a TV show, but Bonner — a former Louisville signee and Ole Miss commit — certainly has talent. He saw action on special teams in 2017.

  • DL Kamonte Carter suited up for Pitt against his former school, Penn State. Carter landing a Power 5 spot was likely a surprise to EMCC position coach Davern Williams, based on their filmed relationship. Carter’s now a redshirt junior at FCS Duquesne, yet another Pennsylvania school.

  • QB Vijay Miller, Johnson’s true freshman backup who was totally outmanned in his one start but then saved EMCC with a Hollywood-grade clutch throw, is now throwing for a little team known as the San Diego Padres’ minor league system.

Season 3 at Independence

  • The show’s third year depicts the 2017 season at Indy CC in Kansas. Head coach Jason Brown is still at Independence in 2018 after leading a turnaround to 9-2 and a bowl win in 2017.

  • Malik Henry, the show’s third Florida State transfer QB in three years, was Indy’s primary passer for nine games before freshman Drake Smith took over. Henry didn’t sign with a new school.

  • OT Tramonda Moore, who signed with Oklahoma State out of high school, remained a four-star at Indy and is now at Oklahoma, which both Moore and the Sooners wanted all along. Moore’s name somehow rarely appeared on the show, but you noticed how many big runs went off tackle, right?
  • After a strong 2017 that included 518 total yards in the season’s two biggest games (and a lot of those big runs behind Moore), RB Rakeem Boyd is at Arkansas. He’s a former Texas A&M three-star.
  • RB Kingston Davis, who struggled for playing time behind Boyd and the hard-running Jamal Scott, landed at UAB.
  • WR Carlos Thompson, the star receiver who’s out of Division I eligibility after signing at Texas Tech in 2013, is now at Division II Missouri Western State, the school whose recruiter brags on the show about a very expensive Jumbotron.
  • WR Calvin Jackson Jr. signed with Washington State. The Floridian’s WSU connection is via a Cougars assistant who coached at Toledo, where Jackson was previously committed.

  • DT Emmit Gooden, a four-star Arkansas commit during most of LCU’s Season 3, has a chance to start for Tennessee in 2018. That’s full circle, because the Vols were the West Tennessee native’s first offer, four years earlier.

Season 4?

Guess we’ll see how things go IRL for ICC this year.
