‘Drunk’ grandad threw boy, 2, into a burning OVEN because he ‘saw the devil in him’
A DRUNK grandad threw his grandson, two, into a burning OVEN because he “saw the devil in him”.
The unnamed boy from Omsk in Russia was rescued but remains in a grave condition after suffering acute burns over 50 per cent of his body.
Doctors say the child is in a coma and fighting for his life on a breathing machine.
Life reports that the grandfather, 53, was “delirious” when he “saw the devil” in his grandson during a drinking session with the child’s grandma, when the pair were babysitting him.
The crazed man used “physical force” to grab the child from his wife and force her out of the house, it was alleged.
Then, fearing Satan, he tossed the toddler into the scorching oven.
The boy’s grandma and a woman neighbour rushed back inside and rescued the screaming toddler.
After arresting him, cops said he “pushed the child into the scalding oven with the purpose of killing him”.
The grandparents were caring for the toddler while their daughter – Irina Andreeva, 21 – was working.
An ambulance chief said: “We managed to bring the child out alive.
“It is such a terrifying story. This is like something the Gestapo would do.”
A police source said: “The suspect was detained in the state of strong alcoholic intoxication.”
The source added that the unnamed grandad had also “been driving for several days and most likely his brain was affected. He did not give any other reason.”
The grandfather faces a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
Svetlana Ospennikov, spokeswoman for Omsk regional health department, said: “The little patient is in intensive care now.
“He is in a grave condition. It is too early to make any forecasts [about his future].
“When we deal with such burns it is impossible to understand his condition. It can deteriorate [rapidly].
“Doctors are currently doing everything to ease the child’s sufferings.”
It is the second case in Russia within the past three months where a child has been burnt in horrific circumstances by grandparents.
